    Q: What is Six Sigma?

    A: Contrary to the way it sounds, Six Sigma is not a fraternity. Rather. Six Sigma is a customer centered, systematic, data driven method for improving or creating processes. The first step of a six sigma process is to investigate what the customer values. The problem solving moves forward, using a well-defined roadmap; Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control.

    Data and statistics are used extensively to ensure that the wanted change really happens. The end state of a successful project is a process that is stable and predictable, capable of meeting requirements, and controlled.

    Six Sigma practitioners are often referred to as "belts". This nomenclature is related to a description of the type of training the practitioner has received and the level of ability they have achieved. In most programs, there are Green Belts, Black Belts, Master Black Belts and Champions.

    Champions are usually referred to as project sponsors and are required to understand the Six Sigma concepts at an executive level. Master Black Belts are the practitioners who are astute enough to be able to not only perform their own projects, but to teach and mentor others. Green Belts are taught all the methodology tools and some of the more common statistical tools and are qualified to work on most projects. Black Belts usually pass through Green Belt training before tackling the advanced tools.

    Following their training, "belts" are required to demonstrate their knowledge and skill by implement various projects following the Six Sigma methodology and then pass a certification review in front of a board of Champions and Master Black Belts.

    Q: What is QuikSigma?

    A: QuikSigma is a modern approach to Six Sigma. At the core of the approach is a software package that was designed specifically for Six Sigma. It includes the methodology tools as well as the statistical tools wrapped neatly in a framework that guides its users through a project outline format, providing the tools as they are needed.

    The software virtually walks a user through their project and stays true to the fundamental Six Sigma principles, particularly, the DMAIC flow -- Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. QuikSigma encourages the user to avoid skipping the very essential methodology tools, such as mapping, cause and effect, failure modes and effects analysis, action plans and control plans.

    Most Six Sigma practitioners fall victim to the temptation to skip the methodology tools and dive immediately into the statistical toys. This inevitably leads to projects being far less effective than they are entitled. QuikSigma stresses the importance of soundly establishing the project with the methodology tools first, then leading you to the statistical tools when the time is approproriate. Q: Is QuikSigma a complete software tool? Does it include all the major methodology and statistical tools required for Six Sigma?

    A: Yes. QuikSigma was designed to help not only Green Belts, but Black and Master Black belts as well. It includes all the major methodology and statistical tools, including some extra tools designed just for this package.

    Unlike some software platforms, QuikSigma's methodology tools are linked together, reducing the amount of repetitve data entry required by most packages on the market. Data flows from step to step in QuikSigma's methodology tools and are introduced at the correct stages of the DMAIC framework. Q: What type of computer system is required to run QuikSigma?

    A: The minimum recommended requirements are:
    * Pentium III 500MHz
    * 256M RAM
    * 40M Free Space or Better
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or Higher
    * Microsoft Windows 2000 / XP
    * Microsoft Word 2002, 2003 for report generation.

    As with most software that is processor and memory intensive, more is better. An ideal system would contain 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM. Large data sets and complex computations require more RAM. Your requirements may be more or less demanding.

    Q: Can we implement QuikSigma using another statistics software package?

    A: As stated earlier, QuikSigma is a system with a software package at its core. While it is possible to train students how to implement a QuikSigma strategy using alternative statistical packages, many of the advantages of a fully integrated platform will be lost.

    QuikSigma excels at keeping "belts" from losing their way during a project. In fact, our clients have been amazed at the quality and speed to completion of their "belts" projects. They are experiencing more, confident and qualified practitioners than ever before. The results speak for themselves.

    QuikSigma was designed to be the only package that a typical belt or project would require and is competitively priced with the more difficult and expensive statistics software available on the market. Additionaly, only QuikSigma provides and easy report generation export to Microsoft Word so that users can share their results, ideas and projects with non QuikSigma users.

    Q: We are an Educational Institution. Is a student edition or pricing available?

    A: No/Yes. There is no "dumbed down" version for education. However, QuikSigma can provide educational grants to institutions of higher learning who are approved, which makes the software avaible for on campus use. If you would like to inquire about how to obtain an educational grant, please contact by email: edugrant@quiksigma.com.
